Ahead of the rebooted franchise’s second movie hitting theaters in May 2014, which is currently still in production, Sony announced release dates for the third and fourth installments to “The Amazing Spider-Man” series, which stars Andrew Garfield as the web-slinging hero. The third movie is set to be released June 10, 2016, and the fourth on May 4, 2018.
Sony Pictures’ Chairman of Worldwide Marketing and Distribution, Jeff Blake, said in a press release, “Spider-Man is our most important, most successful, and most beloved franchise, so we’re thrilled that we are in a position to lock in these prime release dates over the next five years.”
The first ‘Spider-Man’ movie made over $750 million worldwide, so it should come as no surprise Sony would want to keep the franchise going.
The Amazing Spider-Man 2 is directed by Marc Webb from a screenplay by Alex Kurtzman, Roberto Orci and Jeff Pinkner and will feature Garfield back as Peter Parker/Spider-Man, Emma Stone as Gwen Stacy, Shailene Woodley as Mary Jane Watson, Jamie Foxx as Max Dillon/Electro, Dane DeHaan as Harry Osborn, and Paul Giamatti as Aleksei Sytsevich/The Rhino. No word yet on who or what the stories will be for the third and fourth films.
