In the midst of making the two movies he directed that were released at the end of 2011 - War Horse and The Adventures of Tintin – plus shooting and now editing his December 2012 release of Lincoln starring Daniel Day-Lewis in the presidential title role and prepping the adaptation of Daniel H. Wilson’s robots-gone-bad novel Robopocalypse (slated for an April 25, 2014 release), Steven Spielberg has somehow managed to find time to make drastic improvements to two of his earliest films.
A restored version of Jaws is now available on DVD and Blu-ray, and next is his 1981 classic that spawned a franchise and became a cultural phenomenon. But before the Blu-Ray version of that movie, it will first roll into theaters for a limited engagement – but not your regular, run-of-the-mill digital 2D theater, oh no. If you’re going to put the time into re-mastering Raiders of the Lost Ark starring Harrison Ford as the iconic Indiana Jones, it has to be seen in the superior quality theaters of IMAX.

In a press release from the company, Spielberg noted the technical advances of the restoration. “When I saw the stunning quality of the picture and heard the enhanced sound in an IMAX theatre, I was quite literally blown away and hope that audiences will enjoy the experience as much as I did.”
“We are honored to present all the excitement of Indiana Jones in a way it’s never been experienced before – IMAX,” said Greg Foster, Chairman & President, IMAX Filmed Entertainment. “We look forward to celebrating this iconic film with longtime fans as well as a new generation of moviegoers.”
Those fans – new and old – will get to see the action-adventure classic in all its globe-trotting IMAX glory beginning September 7th…and for one week only.
