Earning $36.3 million this weekend, 21 Jump Street - starring Channing Tatum and Jonah Hill – knocked out the reigning champ, Universal’s Dr. Seuss’ The Lorax, for the top spot. The hard R-rated comedy, directed by duo Phil Lord and Chris Miller, easily overcame the competition.
And that’s no small feat for an R-rated comedy. In fact, only seven others – The Hangover Part II, Sex and the City, Jackass 3D, Bad Boys 2, American Pie 2, The Hangover, and Scary Movie - have higher opening weekend numbers (according to BoxOfficeMojo.com). The movie’s younger audience widely approved of the comedy, giving it an ‘A’ CinemaScore. But older audiences, those over 50 – likely fans of the original 1980s Fox TV series, which is very different in tone from the movie – weren’t as kind, giving it a ‘C-’ for an overall ‘B.’

Columbia Pictures ran an aggressive social media campaign for the movie. And it seems to have paid off. The movie’s official Twitter page was exploding all weekend with comments from fans.
From the great, quotable one-liners to the cameos, the movie is one of the most memorable of 2012. And if going for the completely absurd is what gets audiences talking, then certainly this scene – where Jonah and Channing try to vomit a drug they were forced to take in front of the dealer, played by Dave Franco – is one that is surely doing the trick.
Enjoy the antics – which is NSFW – and then take a look at the behind-the-scenes feature on filming it.
