During the 2012 Olympic Games on NBC, a familiar voice was heard during the coverage of women’s gymnastics, the reigning “American Idol” champ, Phillip Phillips, and his first single, “Home.” You may remember the tune from the ‘Idol’ finale, where Phillips performed the song written by songwriter Drew Pearson and originally meant for British artist Greg Holden (who co-wrote the song).
At the time of this post, the song sits at the top of iTunes singles chart, and has found a place on the Billboard Adult Pop, Digital, and Hot 100 charts. It has been officially certified gold.
UK-born director Joseph Toman was called on to get a video shot for “Home,” and brilliantly took advantage of the song’s lyrics and the setting of Phillips being on the road for the ‘Idol’ tour. The tune has a Mumford & Sons beat and feel with a video featuring Phillip’s girlfriend, Hannah Blackwell.
Phillips is scheduled to perform the song on the Today show on August 28th and on Live With Kelly September 4th.
